The summer holidays are just around the corner, so we decided to gain some knowledge of how to cope without electricity during holiday adventures.
This knowledge will allow us to cope not only in the forest, in the mountains or at the lake, but may also come in handy in the ‘urban jungle’.
The cataclysms that haunt us verify our skills: gathering supplies, preparing meals, managing food and fuel rationally, coping when there is a shortage of water or mains gas.
We feel that these skills have somewhat disappeared with the less popularity of the scouting movement among young people, in favour of computers and smartphones. It's time to reverse this trend a bit.
We were helped by experienced instructors who demonstrated methods of building a makeshift shelter under a bivouac sheet, taught how to light a fire with a flint, how to safely operate a tourist cooker with a cartouche when a piezo igniter is missing.
It is also useful to know how to obtain drinkable water, what clothing is useful in difficult conditions and what basic bandages to collect in personal or team first aid kits.
Survival skills also include the ability to solve problems, work as a team and make decisions in difficult situations.
Equipped with this knowledge, you can go into the tents and practice the skills you have learnt.Survival camp - a survival lesson
