Over the past week, our classrooms transformed into little research centres. A special guest visited us on the farm – an expert who introduced the children to the fascinating world of reptiles and amphibians, presenting live specimens of these extraordinary animals.
Emotions under control: Montessori in practice
This meeting brought out a true spectrum of emotions. One could observe delight and excitement among the children, but also uncertainty, and at times even mild fear. In a Montessori environment, such moments are incredibly valuable – they allow children to confront reality in an atmosphere of support, respect, and patience. Thanks to gentle encouragement and clearly defined rules, our pupils were able to:
- Observe the animals up close and ask inquisitive questions.
- Practise courage and self-regulation – for many, it was a lesson in coping with fear and making a conscious decision to interact.
- Practise empathy – ensuring the animals' peace by using quiet voices and a gentle touch.
A new resident in the classroom
The culmination of the visit was welcoming a new member to our classroom community – a tortoise. Together, we prepared a terrarium, considering what a living creature needs to feel safe and healthy. Caring for the tortoise will now become a regular part of the duties within "Practical Life". This is an excellent opportunity to develop:
- independence,
- consistency,
- an understanding that freedom always goes hand in hand with responsibility.
The miracle of life on our farm
However, that is not the end of the joyful news! Our farm community has also grown – a little chick has just hatched in the chicken coop. Such moments are the best nature lesson for children. They allow them to observe life cycles in real time, notice daily changes, and experience the pure joy that comes from contact with nature.
We invite you to view the photo report of these events in our gallery!
