Tic-tac-toe with the Mayor of Wrocław

Helena and Tymon had the opportunity to play tic-tac-toe with the Mayor of Wrocław, Mr Jacek Sutryk! Maybe one day they will win in an actual election?

Mr Mayor's visit took place at the invitation of the Montessori Academy on the occasion of the International Day of Peace. In education by the Montessori method, education in the spirit of peace is one of the key tasks. Therefore, we invited an active and experienced local government official to share his knowledge of democracy with the students.

Before the discussion, our guest visited kindergarten and school classes to familiarise himself with the conditions in which classes are conducted using the Montessori method.

Mr Mayor's attention was drawn to the space-related teaching aids and the presence of pupils from many countries. There is a reason why our Academy is international - we have an international team and pupils!

The class representatives also showed off our newly decorated sewing corner, which they admitted is not easy to keep tidy. Mr Mayor shared his ideas on how to keep the work area clean - maybe it will be easier now!

As everyone gathered in the hall, we sang the song "Light a candle for peace", performed worldwide to mark the International Day of Peace.

The most exciting part was the discussion about democracy, during which we wondered if there is a better system. What is selfishness? Is choosing a school locker the same problem as reconciling the different interests of the city's residents? Does the Mayor have an "enchanted pencil" with which he can renovate all the streets in the city? How do you reconcile those who like tomato soup with rice, noodles, or none?

Thanks to the good examples Mr Jacek Sutryk prepared for the meeting, the complex topic of democracy turned out to be very close to everyone.

To commemorate the visit, we received a drawing with a cat, personally made by the Mayor of Wrocław.
