Over the past weeks, pupils have been learning about different properties of mixtures. They have been mixing and separating substances in different ways.
Of particular interest were colloids, which have peculiar properties. They exhibit the Tyndall effect - a physical phenomenon involving the scattering of light with the production of a characteristic light cone. You can often observe it in the forest when light is scattered by trees.
It was a big surprise to learn about the colloids around us: like pearls, cream or cheese.
