The magic of the Hindu Festival of Lights – Diwali – once again graced our Montessori Academy this year, with the participation of Montessori Farm School Brzezina. It was a day full of exotic flavours, scents, and a deep message about the victory of good over evil. This event perfectly aligned with the pillars of Montessori Peace Education.
The Victory of Light Over Darkness
Diwali, one of the most important holidays in Hindu culture, inspires our Academy community every year. Today, our students gained a thorough understanding of the history and symbolism of this special time. We discussed the fundamental message of Diwali: the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. Through such discussions, children learn universal values that are crucial for building a peaceful world.
Indian Cuisine – Flavours and Challenges
The element that generated the most excitement was the culinary journey to India:
- The Youngest Explorers: The younger (preschool) groups undertook the task of preparing a traditional drink – mango lassi. Discovering the sweet taste of mango and yogurt was a wonderful sensory experience.
- Older students from Montessori Farm School Brzezina tackled a more ambitious task – cooking curry rice over a fire. During the preparations, we talked about the richness of spices that form the heart of Indian cuisine. This was a true lesson in self-reliance and teamwork.
Creating Lanterns and the Art of Rangoli
In accordance with Diwali tradition, the children also focused on creating their own sources of light. Students made and decorated clay lanterns, which are not only beautiful art pieces but, above all, a symbol of the inner light that each of us carries within.
The Art of Rangoli:
Children also had the opportunity to work with colours and shapes, creating beautiful, geometric patterns called Rangoli on the floor, using coloured sand and flowers.
Thank You to the Community
This unique day would not have been possible without the involvement and openness of our community. We extend our sincere gratitude to the members of our academic family who shared their traditions and helped organize this celebration. Thanks to such experiences, based on the Montessori method, our children get to know the world through the lens of different cultures. They learn respect for diversity, openness, and understanding, developing into conscious global citizens.
